How Nullstep thinks, plans, and executes

When you press Initialize, Nullstep's AI engine decomposes your objective into a sequence of concrete, actionable steps called an Execution Path.

1
You define a single goal in the Zen Center
2
The AI breaks it into 3-7 ordered tasks
3
Tasks populate the Execution Path in your sidebar
4
Check off each step as you complete it

The path is persistent. Close the tab, come back tomorrow, and your steps are exactly where you left them. Each session is its own isolated context, so you can run multiple goals in parallel without interference.

Nullstep operates on a two-space model designed for how high-performers actually work:

Zen Center

Your thinking space. Use it to brainstorm with the AI, refine strategy, break down complex problems, and initialize new execution paths. This is where goals are born.

Kanban Board

Your action space. Tasks generated by the AI land here as cards you can drag between columns. Move them from Todo → In Progress → Done as you execute.

The separation is deliberate: thinking and doing require different modes of attention. Nullstep keeps them physically distinct so neither pollutes the other.

The Scratchpadis Nullstep's persistent memory layer. Anything you write in it is injected into every AI conversation within that session as system context.

How it works
  • Write project notes, constraints, or context in the Scratchpad
  • The AI reads it before every response, no need to repeat yourself
  • Each session has its own Scratchpad, so context stays scoped
  • Update it anytime and the AI adapts immediately

Think of it as the AI's working memory. The more context you give it, the sharper and more relevant its pathfinding becomes.
